Dear MIT-Portugal Program Friend/Colleague:
Please save the date and join us for the second International Symposium on Engineering Systems at MIT from June 15-17, 2009. This three-day event will focus on the evolution of engineering systems approaches in research and education, providing attendees with a broad perspective on the latest advances in research, achievements in industry, and future challenges in the field. The event will include:
o Presentations and discussions on engineering systems research, education, and practice
o Two days of plenary sessions with speakers from industry, government, and academia; one day of concurrent research paper sessions
o Distinguished speakers including Charles M. Vest, president of the National Academy of Engineering and former president of MIT, and Norman Augustine, retired chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation
If you work in an area of complex socio-technical systems, whether in academia, government, or industry, this symposium will provide you with broad exposure to the latest thinking from both academics and practitioners in the field.
There is an open call for abstracts for presentations and papers (attached). We encourage abstracts from our Portuguese colleagues.
Online registration will be available after the New Year. Please visit http://esd.mit.edu/symp09 for more details. (If this email was forwarded to you, please send an email to skoperni@MIT.EDU to directly receive future symposium announcements.)
The Engineering Systems Symposium is sponsored by MIT's Engineering Systems Division (ESD) and the Council of Engineering Systems Universities (CESUN). Co-sponsors include the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).
Please circulate this to interested colleagues.
Sincerely,
Daniel Roos
Director, MIT Portugal Program
